Our goal is to partner with your family to understand the whole picture—not just treat symptoms. We believe that educating parents, identifying the root causes of health concerns when possible, and creating individualized care plans helps children build a strong foundation for lifelong health.
Whether your child is joining the practice for routine wellness or a specific health concern, every new patient begins with a comprehensive consultation. This extended appointment allows us to get to know your child, understand your family's goals, and build a personalized plan of care.
Unlike traditional visits that may be limited to only a few minutes, we take the time to listen, ask questions, and thoroughly evaluate your child's health from a whole-body perspective.
This visit may include:
Comprehensive review of your child's medical history
Discussion of current concerns and health goals
Review of birth, developmental, and family history
Complete physical examination (when appropriate)
Growth and developmental assessment
Nutrition and dietary review
Sleep evaluation
Physical activity and lifestyle assessment
Behavioral, emotional, and mental wellness discussion
Review of previous laboratory work, imaging, or specialist records (if available)
Vaccine education and informed discussion (if desired). Vaccines are NOT required.
Discussion of conventional and integrative treatment options
Recommendations for additional laboratory testing or diagnostic studies (when appropriate)

At Changing Tides Functional Medicine, we operate as a direct-pay (cash-pay) medical practice because the type of care we provide simply isn't supported by today's insurance model.
Unfortunately, insurance companies generally do not reimburse for the amount of time and personalized care these visits require. Rather than limiting our appointments to meet insurance requirements, we choose to focus entirely on providing the highest quality care for our patients.
Although our consultation fees are not billed to insurance, many laboratory tests, imaging studies, and prescription medications may still be covered by your insurance plan. Whenever possible, we work with you to help maximize your insurance benefits for these services.
After your visit, we provide you with a Superbill.
A Superbill is an itemized medical receipt that includes:
Provider information
Diagnosis codes (ICD-10)
Procedure codes (CPT)
Date of service
Amount paid
You can submit this document directly to your health insurance company to request possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Every insurance plan is different. Some plans provide reimbursement for out-of-network medical services, while others do not.
Because reimbursement depends on your individual policy, we recommend contacting your insurance carrier and asking:
Do I have out-of-network benefits?
Are functional medicine consultations eligible for reimbursement?
What percentage of my visit may be reimbursed?
Is there a deductible that must be met?
What documentation is required when submitting a Superbill?
While we cannot guarantee reimbursement, many patients with out-of-network benefits are able to receive partial reimbursement or have the cost applied to their deductible.
